DANNEVIRKE.
The Dannevirke High School Board of Governors met yesterday. Present: Messrs. Thos. Bain (chairman), Paton, AVright, Rev. A. Grant and Dr. Macallum (secretary). A number of applications were received for the position of assistant, and Miss E. M. Bollinger, M.A., of Taranaki (who has just returned from a trip through Europe), was appointed. It was reported that
Miss Smith, 8.A., had arrived to
take up the duties of headmistress in place of Miss Law, M.A., who lias gone to Wanganui. About 30 new pupils have enrolled so far and more are expected. The school resumes to-day. Several matters were left in the hands of the chairman and a sub-committee. About a dozen recruits left Dannevirke by express yesterday for camp and were played to the station by the band. " Great sympathy was expressed in Dannevirke, on the news of the death of the Hon. Dr. McNab, M.P., for Hawke’s Bay, as the deceased gentleman had . many personal friends in this district. A large number of men journeyed to Woodville to-day to attend the Medical and Appeal Boards, and the result was that hardly an appeal was allowed.
