H.B. A. AND P. SOCIETY.

A committee meeting of the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society was held yesterday morning, Mr. F. W. Williams presiding. BOARD OF AGRICULTURE.

Messrs. F- W. Williams, J. H. Coleman. Bisson and Macfarlane were appointed rlelogates to a meeting to be held on Monday next to appoint representatives to the Board of Agriculture, with instructions to support the candidature of Mr. E. Averill. AGRICULTURAL EXPERIMENTS. The secretary read the minutes of the meeting held on January 15th in connection with the association formed to make agricultural experiments, in which it was stated that it was estimated that £3OO was required. The chairman (Mr. F. W. Williams) said he thought this society should contribute £5O on condition that the remainder was made up. He felt that this society had to do something to see the matter carried through, though his own opinion was that the County Councils, who control the whole country, should have taken the leading part. Mr. Crosse had offered a plot of land at Patoka for experiments, and had agreed to purchase whatever crop there was at market value. There was, as far as he could see, no reason why the experiments should pay for themselves. Seed and labour would probably have to be paid for in anticipation of the crops. Another member expressed his willingness to lend a plot of land for the purpose indicated. The chairman said the object of making the experiments now was so that they would be ready after the war, when money would have to be paid, to face the position and produce the best they could. If it was not done now they would find themselves unprepared. The delegates to the association were empowered to vote one-sixth of the total amount raised by all the bodies concerned, up to £5O. NEW MEMBERS.

The following new members were elected:—Geo. Goodall (Hastings), R. W. A. Elliott (Mangatahi), T. P. Farley (Hastings), H. Garland (Havelock North), F. C. Wilkinson (Hastings), M. J. Gemmell (Hastings), AV. Barber (Maraetofara), J. R. Stevenson (Napier), Frank Ross (Hastings), A. J. Toogood (Featherston), W. F. J. Anderson (Napier), AV. McCaw (Hastings), R. D. Rogers (Feilding), G. S. Stevenson (Hastings), L. M kite (Napier), F. Millen (Patoka). Accounts amounting to £56 3/9 were passed for payment.
