RETURNED SOLDIERS’ EFFORT The Coronation Hall at Port Ahnriri was last evening the scene of one of the most successful assrtnMies held in Napier for a considerable period, the occasion being the Grand Military Ball under the ex-' cellent auspices of the Napier lie-| turned Soldiers’ Association. , The Mayor (Mr. J. Vigor Brown), in an appropriate speech congratulated the boys on their hard work for this occasion, and expressed a desire that this ball should be an annual affair. He then led off the ‘Grand March. The hall, which was beautifully decorated, formed a truly pretty (sight, as the many dancers displayj ing pretty colours in the frocks of J the fairer sex, mingled with the soli diers khaki, stepped blithley to the j tuneful music of Mr. J. Colberts : orchestra. ; , | Sergeant-Major Ayres. Corporal i Goldfinch and Private Deacon made j efficient M.C’s., and did much to j the dancers’ enjoyment, while exj t ras were played by Misses Stewart ‘ Hitchman, James and Mr. Colbert, j The supper room was another I pretty picture, the tables being i prettily decorated with patriotic ; flow-ers and ribbons of red, white ' and blue. The deepest gratitude is ‘ due to the ladies committee as fol- .. low Misses Whitaker, Anderson, Armour. Ashton, Macett, Rawston, McKay and Airs. Phillips. ' The committee have their reward in seeing their great effort crownI ed. They are as follow Secretary, , Sergeant Dunn. Sergeant Aldridge, . Corporals Goldfinch and Tweedie, Privates Deacon and Pocock. The flags etc., were very kindly lent by the New Zealand Shipping i Company and Captain M iderstorm, i the latter also lending his large An- ■ zac banner.
