Two cases of diphtheria, one from Hastings and one from Napier, were reported to the Hospital Board yesterday. At the Hastings Magistrate’s Court to-day the case F. C. Newriek v. E. Farmery, partly heard last Friday, was concluded. This was a claim for £2O, balance due on threshing mill, traction engine, for coal, mill ridales taken and not returned and £lO damages for trespass. De fendant admitted £ll due on purchase of engine and threshing min, and entered a counter-claim for £5 3/6 for oats, spanners, etc., and labour. After hearing lengthy evidence Mr. Kenrick, S.M., struck out the claim and counter-claim, each party to pay his own costs, and the driving belt, which was admitted by plaintiff to be the property of defendant, to be returned. Mr. C. Croker appeared for plaintiff and Mr. A. C. Major for defendant.
