PROOF OF A WILL.

SOLDIER’S LETTER ADMITTED. Auckland, Oct. 31. In the Supreme Court to-day Mr. Justice Ilosking admitted as proof ot a soldier's will a letter written to his father in England before he (the soldier) left Naw Zealand for the Dardanelles, where lie was killed. _ The will, according to the solicitor's testimony, made to the family bequests of substantial amounts, and gave the residue of the estate to a young lady to whom the testator was engaged to be married. Before leaving for AVcLington the couple met at his solicitor’s and the will was destroyed, the testator, whose name was Charles Edward Milling, giving as the reason that he was about about to break off the engagement. In a letter to his father mentioning the del ails of the will, he stated that he had broken off the engagement, as it was not fair for her to be tied to him, ns it was impossible to say how long he would be away. The judge accepted the letter of the deceased in his own hand writing us a proof of the contents of the will, presuming that in the hurry of his departure the deceased had neglected to make a new will. TRAINING NOTES. RICCARTON TRACK. Christchurch, Oct. 31. Training at Riccarton this morning was carried out in wintry conditions. There was a cold wind and rain. Tatterley with the assistance of Homeric ran the last four or. five furlongs to he old post in 1.6 1-5. Colonel Soult went a round in 2.6 3-5. Hyllus beat Loyal Arch over six furlongs in. 1.21. Arran. . ran four furlongs, doing the last three in 38 2-5. El Gallo and Tepapapa ran together to the end of a mile, doing the last seven in 1.35 3-5. Alteration proved better than Rockfield over seven furlongs in 1.34 1-6. Bagdad beat two companions over five to the new post in 1.5 2-5. Bjorneborg ran six furlongs comfortably in 1.26 4-5. Glenroy did seven furlongs in 1.33. Bisogne beat Gold Lac over six in 1.21 2-5. After breakfast General Joffre beat Idra over six in 1.21. Kitty Bellairs ran four furlongs in 50 4-5. Lady Penury with the assistance of Pendoon and Royal Irish, at intervals, ran a mile and a quarter in 2.16. It was a good gallop. A lot of others also worked.
