HERETAUNGA SCHOOL.

ANNUAL SPORTS. Ideal weather favoured the Heretaunga School’s annual athletic sports which were held os the school grounds on Saturday last. Many of the boys’ parents and friends were present and had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Although several events had been decided during the week, a lengthy programme still remained to be carried through. Ti ere were many close finishes in the various events, the times of the races comparing .very favourably with those of previous years. A. \V. .Mossman showed himself an allround athlete, carrying off the lion’s share of cups and prizes. In the long jump, under 12, H. de Lautour established a new school record by jumping 13ft. 9in. That the programme w-as carried through promptly was due to the efficient arrangements made by Mr. R. H. Jones, who also acted as starter. Mr. W. Gray was referee, the judges being Messrs. W. Mackenzie, H. W. Malden. 8 R. Quartley. C. Stapleton, C. ('. Tanner, and D. Tosswill, w-hile Mr. G. R. King officiated with the stop-watch.
