OTANE.

(Own Correspondent). The secretary of the Red Cross League reports that the special collection made last week has yielded very satisfactory results, the response from Pukehou being particularly good. With one or two exceptions the nearer residents seem to have overlooked it, but it is hoped that they will reply before the end of the month. Miss Dillon reports that the following contributed gifts of money to the Soldiers’ Xmas Gifts Fund: Mesdames J. Tod, R. Evans, W. Malenoir, W. Cheer, Otham A. Robottom, H. Mansfield, A. V. Collins, G. Porter, E. G. William, G. Davidson, Cartwright, Misses N. Tod, A. Howard, M. Howard, Langridge, Mcßae, Hiddleston, Clark and Messrs B. Powell, Spargo, Crawford, W. H. Small, R. Dillon, H. Dillon, W. Hicks, R..H. White, R. H. Tod, J. Newrick, W. A. Tod, “Syhpathiser” and “A Friend.” Practically every person in the town and district contributed gifts and if they all reach their destination the boys will have a royal “blow out.” On Wednesday afternoon the Otane Tennis Club opened its season. There was a good attendance of members and some visitors from the Waipawa Club. The courts are in very good order and promise well for the season. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs. N. Barrie. An invitation has been received from the Waipawa Club for its opening on Wednesday next.
