MAI) ('LIEXT SHOOTS MOTOR SALESMEN. TAK \PIXA SEX SAT! OX. Auckland, March 13. A shooting affray occurred near * Takapuna io day. l.y which I’eret Robert Skeates (motor garage proprietor) and. Rohm I James Hanna (driver for the firm) received wounds. Skeates was shot five times, the bullets lodging -one in the rigid armpit, slightly injuring the - lung; one in the back of the right hand: one in the right upper op'® lid; and one glazing the Hanna was hit by three bullets, one lodging in the right shoulder blade, being the in<M cciiovs. the others Hu rely grazed him. Both men will recover. According to a statement I>> one of the injured men. a man who wished to purchase a ear was taken for a drive. The would-be purchaser left the car for a minute and suddenly opened fire on Hanna and Skeates with a revolver. Skeates fell over at the first shot, while Hanna jumped out. The assailant fired more shots at Skeates. who lay on the road. Hanna, believing Skeates to be dead, sc.ught safety in flight. The assailant then took possession of the car and drove back to Takapuna, informing the police that there had Li on some shooting by persons on a meter car. Hanna also returned to the police l station. The party went out ami bringht Skeates back to the hospital. Rc.b''rt Jasper C'rago. alleged to be the assailant, has been arrested. He is about 19 tears of age. It is understood that the arrested man. t’rago. made no statement beyond what he told the police at Takapuna. He informed the latter that there had been some scooting by some persons in a motor ear on the road to Silverdale, about two and a half miles from Takapuna. He then went on to explain that he was taking Skeates and Hanna out to see the country in a car he intended to purchase. When about 21, miles from Takapuna he left the car for a moment, and while bo was away ho hoard shots. Returning to the road ho saw Skeates. lying on the road, while the other man, Hanna, was running off -in the direction of Brown's Bay. Crago said he got ino the car and made haste to inform the police
