In the case against Newton and Bennett. Thorsch, complainant, gave evidence that he was induced to invest £14,500 in Manchurian concessions, limited, for which -he did not receive any return. Subsequently Newton and others persuaded him to invest £lO,OOO in alleged bogus land and timber concessions, in Canada. Newton’s bail was fixed at £lO.OOO.
