LAND BOARD INQUIRY.

[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Wednesday. The Land Board held an inquiry today into a charge that a false declaration nad been made in the name of W. McLean for a small grazing run at Serpentine. The successful applicant was William McLean, but he put in no application personally, lionaid McLean, an uncle, admitted that he had informed Mr Kirk, solicitor, in making the declaration, that his name was William McLean. It was true that he forged another man’s name, but ho did not know any better. He knew his nephew wanted to go in for the run, but he was not at .home when witness left for Dunedin, so witness thought he could sign (or him. The board forfeited the. application and £73 4s 5d paid in connection therewith. The report will be forwarded to the Government.
