LIVE STOCK.

ADDINGTON MARKET

CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday.

There was a fair entry of stock at the Addington saleyards yesterday, and the usual attendance of buyers. Fat Cattle. The entry numbered 196, and there was a fair demand at last week’s rates. The price of beef ranged from 20s to 23s per 1001b. Steers £6 2s 6d to £lO 2s 6d, heifers £5 10s to £7 Ss, cows, £5 5s to £7 7s 6d.

Fat Sheep. There was a good entry of fat sheep, and the yarding comprised some lines of particularly prime wethers, and a fair number of good quality ewes. The reported increase in the price of frozen meat at Home enabled the export buyers to increase their limits, and they consequently secured the bulk of the wethers. This increased the competition amongst butchers for prime, and prices advariced in consequence. For wethers the market was firm at late rates. Best wethers 18s to 21s 3d, lighter 15s 6d to 17s 6d; best ewes 16s to 18s lOd, others 11s fid tp 15s fid.

Store Sheep—A small entry, numbering 998, met with poor inquiry and a dragging sale. The chief sales were 60 wethers at 15s sd, 150 iambs at 10s Id, 41 lambs at 11s, 176 lambs at 9s, 43 lambs at 8s lOd, 104 ewes and lambs at 8s 3d.

Fat Lambs.—A large entry, totalling 2859, included a large proportion of unfinished sorts. The market was again easier all round, and export buyers purchased a large number of pens. Freezing iambs 12s to 15s fid, tegs to 16s fid, butchers’ 12s to 15s lOd. unfinished 10s fid to 12s. Pigs—There was a fair entry, including some prime l sorts. The demand was not particularly keen, but stores were firm in comparison. Baconers 44s to 55s fid (equal to 4d per lb), porkers 30s to 38s fid (equal to 4]d to 5d per lb), iarge stores 25s to 525, medium 14s to 225, weauers 11s to 14s.
