WAIPAWA.

A meeting of the Town Board was held on Monday. Present -Messrs H. M. Eathhone (chairman), W. I. Limbriok, J. Barker, W. D. Pattison, and S. M'Greevy. A letter from the Treasury dated September 2nd, 1902, relative to the proposed loans of -0300 and -2ioo, was re-read; also a report furnished by Dr. Pinch, Acting District Health Offioar, under date July 17th, 1902. These communications had caused the board to initiate some active measures towards connecting houses unconnected with the mein sewer. They had been already discussed by the board which went out of office on the 17th September. Further discussion now took place. Mr M'Gtesvy was of opiaion that the construction of further sections of the main sewer could be done out of rates, and thus obviate the necessity for the loans. The sections would be a continuance of the sewer in the Great North-road, (estimated cost £ls), a short connection in Waverleystreet (estimated cost £ll 10s), and a short connection in Matthew-street (estimated cost £110«). The estimated cost of all sewage connections from houses to the main sower and its continuations would be about £477 11s lid. Mr Barker thought it would scarcely be possible to create a special area for a special rate to carry out the connections as many of the properties in the town were connected, and all those unconnected were able to bear the cost of the connection. Mr Limbriok thought it would be best to taka a vote in the town district, omitting the bush district, regarding a special loan for the work. It would not be fair to the latter section of the ratepayers as they would not participate in the ad- ! vantage. Defaulting ratepayers would then connect. If they did not, it was in the power of the Health Department, through the board, to compel them to do so. Mr M'Greevy moved and Mr Harker seconded, *' That a poll of ratepayers in the town district be taken to borrow £3OO for drainage purposes this year, and if required, £IOO to be taken up next year "-Carried. All the members of the board, with the overseer, had inspected the route of the proposed extension of the main eewet on October 10th, and they were convinced of the necessity for the same. The two letters above referred to, and a statement of assets and liabilities are available for perusal by ratepayers during office hours of the Town Board each week. Mr M'Greevy asked at the last meeting of the Town Board for a return of the financial position of the board, for the satisfaction of the ratepayers. It
