TRADE OF JAPAN.
[PBBSS ASSOCIATION,] Wellington, Monday. Mr J. O. Qow, the New Zealand trade representative, writing from Kobe, says the possibility of trade between this colony and Japan is very remote. The Japanese do not as a rule eat mnttoo, butter, or cheese, as they cannot afford such luxuries. Mr Qow says he is convinced, after careful and exhaustive inquiries in all the leading cities of Japan, that there is no market there for our leading lines of produce, and that it would be a waste of time and money for our exporters to try that market. The only articles which might find a market in Japan, in limited quantities when prices are low, are wool, hops, leather, and fionr.
