THE BOER WAR.
FINISHING THE CAMPAIGN.
THE MEN HEQUIEEP.
London, July 17,
There are indications that there is a substratum of truth in the u, u /'. statement as to Lord Kitchener’s intentions, inasmuch as Lord Kitchener has been sparing the cavalry in favor of the Yeomanry and the Colonial Bough Riders, who are well suited to finishing the campaign and carrying out police duties. Sir Gordon Sprizg, Cape Piemier, addressing the Vigilance Committee, said the situation at the Cape was brighter than at any time during the war. Communications were passing between Lord Kitchener and the Cape Ministry, and the result, Sir Gordon Sprigg hoped, would be the end of warfare. It had been impossible to summon the burgher forces to assist, as the Dutch were so untrustworthy, and often rebels at heart. Trooper G. E. Miller, of the New Zealand local forces, has bsen appointed a second lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. The work of clearing up the Eastern Transvaal is proceeding steadily. Two thousand refugees are enc imped eastwards of Pretoria.
