THE CRUISER EUROPA

ENOBMOUS CONSUMPTION OF COAL. COST JGBOOO IN FUEL. Received June 12, 10.40 p.m. 9 Sydney, Tuesday. The cruiser Europa has arrived with relief crews for the squadron. Kecoivod .Tune 13, 1 v.m. The monster cruiser Europa, with Belleville boilers, proved herself a most expensive coal-consumer. The trip from Portsmouth, including stoppages for trials of hor boilers at Malta, and a visit to Batavia, occupied 86 days, 30 of which were devoted to coaling, and consumed 200 tons English and 250 tons colonial coal daily. The cost of fuel alone was over £8000 for the voyage. For this reason the officers' opinion is that the vessel is a complete failure for long distance steaming.
