General Buller telegraphed on Sunday concerning Friday's engagement :— "I find that the enemy, 2000 strong, abandoned a carefully prepared position, and retired 26 miles north-west. The British supplies, baggage, and waggons having arrived safe, after arduous work through the mountains up Botha pas 3, we are advancing to-day. Some opposition is shown, but I am putting the enemy to flight. " The African Light Horse drove the Boers from a strong position. The Boers refused General Buller's proffered chance of returning to their farms if they surendered their artillery.
