THE MAITLAND.
CAPTAIN AND OFFICERS EXONERATED. (PJBB PBBSS ASSOCIATION.-COPYRIGHT.) Mar 91, 0.30 p.m.] Sydney, Saturday. The Marine Board found the orew of the Merksworth justified in abandoning their vessel, believing that she was sinking. The inquest on the Maitland victims is concluded. The jury exonerated the captain and officers from all blame, and found that they did all in their power to avert the disaster. They also gave great credit to Captain Skidner for the courage and skill he displayed in saving lives. (PER tWITED PBESS ASSOCIATION). AUCKLAND, Saturday, A sealed bottle was picked np in Auckland harbor today containing the follow* log mestage :— " B.S. Maitland, coast of Australia. For God'i sake tend help and provisions.
