TRIBUTE OP THE HOUSE OF .COMMONS. Received May 21, 1.20 a.m. London, May 20. Before he died Mr Gladstone expreauad the desire that no flowers BhouMbo placed on his grave. M»y social functions, including a Stape ball fixed for Monday, have been postponed out of respect to his memory. Tributes of sympathy have been received from public men of all parties. The Press, in obituary articles, unanimously recogniso the lofty character, the great services, and the unique personality of the dead statesman. There was a touching and impressive scene in the House of Commons. All the members were in mourning, their complete silence testifying the depth of their emotion, (
Mr Balfour, though suffering from tho after effects of inllucßza, in a broken voice announced his intention to move to-day that an address be presented to the Queen, praying that unless inconsistent with Mr Gladstone's wishes, he be accorded a public funeral and that a monument be placed to his memory in Westminster, iw expressing tho public admiration ami tho attachment of both I louses of Parliament at the high senso of Mr Gladstone's rare and splendid gifts, his devoted labors in Parliament, and his great offices to the Slate. The ilouse then silently adjourned. The House of Lords did not sit.
