WOOD PAVING IN GREAT BRITAIN.
THE BOOM IN AUSTRALIAN
TIMBER,
Farther evidence of the extent to which (be Australian timber trade is being puahed in Great Britain for street paving U contained in a letter which Mr James Freyberg, of Wellington, late timber expert to the New Zealand Government, has jußt reoelved from London. Bis correspondent Atates that Mr Miller, a well-known West Australian sawmill owner, has been wonderfully successful In floating his business on the Home market. The property, wbloh consists of mills and forests near Bnnbury and Albany, was offered to the public one morning, the capital belnK fixed at £35,000, and before night £450 000 .vorth of shares was applied for. Mr Millar has been dolog a considerable trade in pavlDC blocks, and the oompany that has been floated to tuke all his properties Intends to greatly enlarge the volnme of business.
The Timber Trades Journal refers to tbe Buooeea of the fbtiation, and points out that it indicates very clearly that the British publio prefers to invest in Home and colonial enterprises rather then those belonging to foreign conn cries. Mr Freyberg has shown us [Pott) the advertisements ot a Dumber of bodies at Home which are willing to pnrchase woods for street- paving pnrpoees, and ha expresses regret that sawmlllers in New Zealand do noo make an effort to secare some of tbe orders.
