A resolution was carried In favor of a State Bank, and Government assistance to farmers in the export of produce; also that the Government be more systematic in the destruction of rabbits.
The Government has let a contract for the mannfaotara looally of £26,000 worth of iron piles. This will give employment to 300 men.
The Herald, commenting on the New Zealand banking returns, says it is note* worthy that while in the other colonies there has been a general decline In advances, in New Zealand an Increase la apparent. This, it says, la all the more noteworthy, from the faot that the Government have become competitors with the banks in this class of business. With larger averages of coin and bullion, the position of the banks la stronger than is was.
