A meeting of depositors in the Colonial Bank of Australasia rejected the proposed re-arrangement in connection with deposits.
Tenders were opened for £160,000 worth of Monnt Lyell debentures, and £171,000 was subscribed at prices ranging from par (which was the minimum) to 6J j £66,000 was offered at a rate above par. An application in the Supreme Court on behalf of certain shareholders to restrain the Issue of these bonds stands partially heard. The objection is not to floating the loan, bat to the proposal that the debenture holders abonld have the option of surrendering their debentures and receiving shares in exchange. A conference of Protectionists and manufacturers la being held to consider a recommendation to be submitted to Parliament with respect to the report of the Tariff Board. A resolution was carried pledging the various trades to stand shoulder to shoulder in influencing the members in favor of Protection.
In the Legislative Assembly the tariff proposals are being diecuafed. An amendment has been moved adding a provision to the schedule that the maximum for all ad valorem duties shall be 25 per cent.
