Sir W. Robinson, Governor of Western Australia, in a paper read at a meeting of the Colonial Institute, described the wonderful advance the colony had made during the lasb fonr years. The colonists fully reeogaised, and were qnlte equal to, the dnties of responsible government, and he declared, there were do more contented and prosperous people sonth of the equator than tbe inhabitants of Western Anstralia, and no part of tbe world offered a fairer field for enterprise and industry. He firmly believed that the highest hopes io regard to the wealth of the auriferous deposits of the colony would be realised., and some experts estimated the value of the outpnt of gold as high as £95,600,000 sterling. Sir William also emphasised the value of the timber resources of the colony, and predicted a splendid fatnre (or the wine-growing industry. He under, ■tood the Midland Railway Company of Western Australia was abont to formulate a comprehensive scheme for the settlement of the people on their lands, which •wonld be of incalculable benefit to the colony at large. Tbe Marylebone Cricked Club has undertaken the management of the national memorial to Dr. W. G. Grace.
