FATAL SHOT.

MUKDER IN THE OPKN STREET. [by telegraph.] Masterton, Thursday. A man named Andrew Somervllle deliberately shot at and killed another named Arthur Herbert in Queen-street this afternoon. Somervllle had been working tor Herbert, and a dispute regarding a claim for £19 wages occupied the B.M. Court this morning, the case being adjourned for a fortnight. Somervllle on leaving the Court about midday purchased a six-chambered revolver, and at abont 4.30 was Been talking to Herbert outside the Club Hotel, several persona being in the street at the time. Suddenly he drew the revolver, and saying, "Take that," fired a shot which entered Herbert's body in the region of the heart, He threw np hia _armß, and taming round, struggled across the road. Soraerville fired two more shots at him, I and Herbert fell dead, the bystanders scattering In all directions. Constables Collerton and Nestor, who were within 50 yards of the scene, rnsbed at the murderer and secured him. The former took away the revolver, which on examination proved to have the three remaining chambers loaded. Somervllle made no resistance, and remarked that he wonld go quietly. Both men are single. Herbert h an old sattter. The other had been working on several contracts in the district, and was generally looked upon as a quiet man. The affair en used no little sensation there.
