LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Friday, December 16. . I The Council met at 2.30 p.m. " ALL THE SAME AS HOUSE OP LORDS." A motion by Major Baillie that the divisions should be taken in the same manner as in the House of Lords was lost, as was also an amendment to the motion made by Sir Frederick VYhitaker. MR WHAWHA'S VOTE. The Speaker having considered the mistake made in the division list on the second reading of the Girls' High Schools Bill on Wednesday last, whereby Mr Whawha's ;name was recorded with the noes instead of with the nyes, said he would reinstate the order for the second reading of the. bill on the order paper for next d»y. I MR BUCKLEY'S VOTE. Mr Buckley complained of the paragraph appearing in that day's Wellington Tivies relative to the manner in which he had recorded his vote on the second reading of the Girls' High School Bill. That paper had taxed him with voting against the bill though he had fathered the same same bill in the Council last year. That was not true. He had not introduced the bill and had voted against it. The matter then dropped. BILLS. The Civil Service .Reform Bill, the Native Land Administration Act Repeal Bill, and the Government Loans to Local Bodies Bill were read, a third time and passed. •Mr Stevens moved the second reading of the Land Act Amendment Bill. Mr M'Lean and Mr Miller supported the motion. ;The debate was interrupted by the adjournment at 5 o'clock.
