ENGLAND.
(Received February 14, 1.20 p.m.) London, February 13. The cargo of frozen mutton on board the steamship Tongariro from New Zealand, comprising 12,000 oaroases, has been examined and found to be in excellent condition. The report of Lord Granville's speech on the Marquis of Salisbury's motion in the House of Lords yesterday was in- • correct as telegraphed, so far as it referred to the British representative in Cairo. His Lordship did not say it was intended to appoint a diplomatic agent of first rank, but stated that an official had been appointed, being Major Sir Evelyn Baring, at present Agent, Consul-General, and Minister Plenepotentiary in Egypt. (Received February 14, 3.10 p.m.) It has transpired that under instructions from his Government Mr Murray Smith, Agent-General for Victoria, has offered to place at the disposal of the Imperial authorities for service in the Bed Sea in the present ciisiß, the Victorian gunboats Victoria, Albert,. and Childers, now bound for Melbourne.
