PORANGAHAT7 V. WAINUI. The return match between the abovenamed clubs was played at Wainui on" March 30th. The weather was splendid, and the ground having been well watered and beaten down between the wickets, was in pretty good order. The batting of E. Bastock for Porangahau was as usual very good, his free style of batting, combined with good defence, being greatly admired. The "bowling of Poole in the first innings of the Wainui team was firstclass, the first four wickets f ailing for 12 runs. T. Crosse bowled well in the second innings, four out of seven wickets being credited to him. W. Herbert and Hodges were the only two who made any stand against the Porangahau bowling in the first innings, the leg hitting of the former being splendid, as his score will show, it including one 5, one 4, and two 3's, all but one hit being to leg. It was chiefly owing to the steady play of Arthur Herbert in the second innings that Wainui scored their second win by two runs, with four wickets to spare. Subjoined is the full score : — WAINUI. SHEEPFARMERS. The last game of the season, being the return match of Sheepfarmers v. Bankers, took place at Taradale on Saturday afternoon, and was in some respects the most enjoyable and exciting of the series. With the exception that the ground, in consequence of the prevalent dry weather lately, was in bad order, and afforded a very indifferent pitch, there was no other drawback to either players or spectators. The weather was splendid, a cool breeze tempering what would otherwise, have been an uncomfortably sultry day for crickers. It is always rather invidious to distinguish particular players, but without doubt the honors of the game fell to Messrs Vickerman and Burke for the' Bankers, who respectively scored 22 and 14, and to Messrs J. Williams, Fitzroy, and Baker for the Sheepfarmers. Mr Allan Williams' bowling on the side of the Sheepfarmers was also admirable. Below is the full score of the match. As a rule, matches here are not well attended by the ladies, but we observed with pleasure several carriages on the ground full of fair occupants. The players desire to thank the Napier Club for the use of their ground and their cricketing material. The following are the scores : — SHEEPFARMEBS. Goo.
