We learn that the Government have now made an offer to the Hawke's Bay Education Board of £3000 for the purposes of school buildings. This is still nothing like sufficient. We trust they will see the necessity of granting at least £5000. They allege, it is reported, as their reason for not having offered a larger sum in the first instance, that the wants of the district had not been laid before them by the board in due time. Mr Ormond certainly deserves credit for having stirred this matter up. If he had not taken an interest in the matter, it seems doubtful whether the wants of the district would even yet have been laid before the Government.
