Charitable Aid.. —ln a Gazette published yesterday, it is notified that tbe following gentlemen have been appointed members of a board for administering the Charitable Aid Fund:—<H. S. Tiffen, T. Tanner, J. Anderson, T. Scully. Artesian Wells.—On Saturday night Mr. Garry bottomed a well for J. Cuff Esq., on his property, near Waitangi Bridge. The depth was 130 feet, and the time occupied in driving, three • days. Yesterday Mr* Lord commenced driving on the premises of 1 Mr. James Brown* fellmonger, Meanee. G. S. Cooper, Esq., late Resident Ma* gistrate for the Ngaruroro district, has, it is understood, been appointed Under Native Secretary, in lieu of Mr. Rolleston, recently elected Superintendent of Canterburyi Mr. Cooper proceeded to Wellington by the Taranaki, steamer; The Thames Gold Fields', according to dates per Rangatira, continue to exhibit proofs of great richness. For instance, the gold crushed from the Caledonia Claim was retorted a day or two before the steamer left, and, from 9 tons of quartz crushed 223 ounces of gold were extracted. This gives a yield of 26 ounces to the ton. Other products of equal richness are announced. Nothing further has transpired respecting the Waikato gold-fields. Church oe England. — At the annual meeting of parishioners, held on the evening of Saturday last, the following report for the year ending 30th June was read :— Owing to the resignation of the Rev. L. Saywell, in June 1867, the Rev. J.. Townsend was appointed to the Cure of this parish on the Ist of December last, the Bishop of Waiapu having in the meantime made, himself responsible for the ustifll services of the church. The vestry have now to lay before the parishioners the annual accounts and balance-sheet, by which it will be seen that the outstanding liabilities (which in June 1867, amounted to £289 17s. 6d.) have been this year decreased to £214 12s.' 7d.) They beg to call attention to the gratifying fact of the increased attendance on the services of the church, made apparent by the offertories during the past 'year having exceeded those of the previous one by £57 4s. 2d., which more than compensates for the loss of the fees accruing on account] of military chaplaincy. By private subscription, the church has been efficiently lighted with kerosene lamps, and a considerable saving will thereby be annually effected. Smith & Co. will hold a stock sale at Meanee, to-morrow. ROUTLEDGE, KENNEDY & Co. will Sell, tOmorrow, household furniture; and, on Thursday, stock at Meanee. Postponement. — Mr. Webb's sale at •Percy house, advertised for tbe 18th inst., has been postponed till the 25th.
