OKAIAWA

MAORI TENNIS CLUB (From Our Own Correspondent.) A successful ball was held by the Okaiawa Maori Tennis Club at Okaiawa on Monday evening, when visitors were present from Hawera, New Plymouth, Inglewood and Manaia. The hall and supper room were decorated with orange and black streamers, while tho stage was adorned with punga leave?, camcllas and spring flowers. Music was .supplied by Wills’ Melodymakera Orchestra. Dining the evening a foxtrot competition was held' and prizes to the value of £1 each were given to the winners, Miss I. Old and Mr D. Lamb (Inglewood), Miss Yarrow (Manaia) and Mr Haddon (Normanby) were the runners-up and the judge was* Mr Johnston (New Plymouth). A Monte Carlo sweepstake waltz was won by Miss S. Tippett (Normanby) and Mr R. Gamlin (Kapuni), and a foxtrot tango by Mr Johfiston and Miss V. Deavery (New Plymouth). Extras were played by Mr E. Nuku and Mr W. Larcom. The ladies’ committee, Mrs D. Matpe, Mrs R. Aki. Aki and Mrs T. Nuku, served a dainty supper. PERSONAL NOTES. Mr and Mrs O. Crawford have returned to Okaiawa. Miss W. Oldfield left on Monday for Auckland, where she will attend the Dominion conference of Women’s Institutes. Mrs A. Sutherland, who has been visiting her sister at Wanganui, has returned home. Mrs W. Blair, who has been attending tho W.D.F.U. conference at Wellington, returned home during the week.

Mr D. Johnston and Mr R, Shearer,, who have been visiting Masterton, have returned. Mr S. Burns, of Wellington, was tho guest of Mr Penfold during the weekend. Mrs J. Johnstone, “Westward Ho,” has left for Marton and Wellington on a holiday visit. Miss Edna Washer is on a holiday visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Olsen have taken up their residence on Burgon Road. Mr and Mrs P. Butcher’s small son is a patient in the Hawera nospital.
