MAGISTRATE REFUSES BAIL

SERIOUS CHARGE ALLEGED. UNREGISTERED DOCTOR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, To-day. Late last night Detective-Sergeant Walsh and three detectives executed search warrants on the residence and office of George Frederick Hewer, aged 49, an unregistered medical practitioner. They arrested Hewer, and to-day at the Police Court, he was charged that on July 23 he unlawfully used an instrument oh a young woman. The police obtained a remand, and when application was made for bail Senior Detective Hall strongly opposed it, stressing the seriousness of the charge and the fact that the young woman was in hospital. The magistrate ('Mr McKean) refused to allow bail.
