STRATFORD WIN AGAIN

STAR BEATEN BY 24 TO SIX LOSERS AHEAD AT HALF-TIME ROUTED IN SECOND SPELL. Star started promisingly against Stratford ,on Victoria Park. Stratford, and scored-l-a try (unconverted) and a penalty goal vin the first spell within a quarter of an hour of flip kiek-olf. The spell was halfway through when Stratford opened their scoring account with a. penalty goal. in the second spell Stratford overwhelmed the visitors and scored five tries, of which the last three were converted.

After an interchange of kicks between Simpson and the red backs Lehmann found the line inside Star’s twenty-five. Star forced as the red forwards crossed the .line between the l posts. Simpson beat a bunch of red forwards in Jiis twenty-five and kicked to nc'fir halfway. Neilson followed up a high kick and beat Ross and Berg and the blacks surged on to the line. From Star’s twenty-five, in reply to the red backs’ passing, Simpson emerged from a hot corner and kicked downfield, a serum being formed in Stratford’s twenty-five. Play went back to halfway, Simpson having the best of the interchange of kicks. Fast following up caught Berg in possession at his twenty-five flag, but the reds worked back to the blacks’ twenty-five. . Half-time scores -were : Star 0, Stratford 3.

Stratford immediately rushed to Star's twenty-five and M. Sangster kicked to Ciic corner flag. Davey .scored from a scramble near the line. Ross missed.—Star (5, Stratford 6. A nice passing movement out to Rijss was stopped at Star’s twenty-five and from the line the blacks did good combined work, reaching their opponents’ twenty-five where Dodd knocked on. A free to Stratford transferred play to halfway. Dodd forced when a long kick by Aubrey went over the line. Passing started by Ross went across well to Berg wjio knocked on at Star’s twenty-five. Again Star invaded Stratford’s territory, but the red forwards sent them back and Clarke broke- away inside the twentyfive and pushed Simpson aside to score near the corner. Ross just missed goaling.—Stratford 9, Star b.

Collins broke away and passed to Berg who passed inside, but the .movement was stopped. Aubrey kicked high and Dodd found the line at halfway, when C". Sangster ran through everything to Simpson, who marked and play went to -halfway. The game was fast and full of incident. The reds were getting the ball, but were being driven back by good kicking. For a time the pJay was on Stratford's side of halfway and then the red forwards broke away, but were sent back. Butcher intercepted a black passing run and passed to Collins, who beat Aubrey and ran round near the posts. Ross goaled.—Stratford 14, Star (5. Inside the halfway line M. Sangster stab kicked and the forwards went on to the line, where Clarke broke through under the bar. Rioss goaled. —Stratford 19, Star 6.

A free kick enabled Star to get to Stratford's twenty-five and a. passing run out to Aubrey was stopped by Berg. Line-outs at halfway followed till Clarke broke through to bustle the Star backs, but the defence was sound. The reds had a great chance, Simpson having to run back for the ball,

but three red forwards could not score, a force resulting. Dodd put in a splendid kick from halfway to Star’s coiner hag. From the scrum.
