NATIVE BIRD PROTECTION

WORK AT WANGANUI (By Telegraph—r ress Association.) WANGANUI, June 15. Splendid work is being carried out by the Wanganui Acclimatisation Society in native bird .protection. During recent years the society has made grants for the purpose of planting suitable trees to provide food for tuis and bellbirds and other native birds. This year the society 'has been distributing free of charge flowering eucalyptus of several varieties, tree lucerne and banksias with a view to augmenting the food supplies of native birds. 'J'he society is one of the oldest in the Dominion, being founded in ISG2. Though it has. not a large district in which to operate, it does valuable work in the interests of acclimatisation and bird protection.
