Seven men, anxious to secure a close view of Rear-Admiral Byrd’s expedition boat the Jacob Ruppert, anchored in Jamaica Bay, rented a rowboat. When about 100 feet from the shore the craft capsized. Two were unable to swim and were drowned, and the others made the shore with the aid of the police. The Jacob Rupp.ert came with three of the expedition’s aeroplanes from Boston for exhibition here.
