Hawera visitors to Wellington who returned yesterday were Messrs j. BRowe and R. Mortlock.

The Mayor of Hawera (Mr J. E. Campbell) returned yesterday from Wellington, where he attended a meet' ing of the executive of the New Zealand Municipal Association. Mr A. F. Excell, manager of the Commercial Bank of Australia, Hawera, who has been in hospital for the past 12 days, has sufficiently recovered to return to his home. On the recommendation of the Professorial Board, the Massey College Council has awarded Andrew Clement and Sons bursaries to S. A. Buckingham (Awanui), R. Greenough (Okaiawa) and F. Kelsey (Hokianga). Mr Peter Harvey, a prominent figure in Rugby and motoring circles, has been appointed secretary of the South Island Motor Union. Mr Harvey succeeds to the vacancy caused through’ the retirement of Mr P. It. Harman, who will retain the position of manager of the South Island l Motor Union Insurance Association. Mr Harvey was Canterbury and New Zealand Rugby selector for some time, and had a distinguished record as a player. He played for New Zealand against a British fifteen in 1904, and in North versus South matches in 1902 and 1903. He has been closely acquainted with automobile association affairs.
