WEDDINGS

Haybittle - - Gibson

St. Paul’s Church, Normanby, was beautifully decorated on the evening of June 5 for the wedding of Alice Mavis, younger daughter of Mr B. O. Gibson, Mountain Road, Normanby, to Eric William, oldest son of Mrs Farmer, Blenheim, and the late Mr C. Haybittle, V eliington. Masses of hydrangeas in delicate shades of green, interspersed with camellias, arbutelan, japonica and roses in warm pinks and flame tones, set off with trails of fern, .died the body of the church, while the chancel was decorated in chrysanthemums, paper whites, roses, fuchsias and japonica in white and'pale shades of pink, attractively arranged with maidenhair and aspargus fern. Rev. Canon D. B. Malcolm, of Hawera, officiated at the ceremony, Mr R. F. Pago, Ilawera, presiding at tlie organ. The guests were ushered to tlieir seats bv Messrs R. Hunger and W. J. Riddle. The bride, who entered the church with her father, was beautifully gowned in white matalasse with a tiny silver thread running through the material. Fashioned on fitting lines, the frock had a deep cowl of silver lame attached to the front of the bodice j with silver loops, and extending over the shoulders to form a deep square yoke at the back. Tlie yoke was also attached with silver loops, and buttoned from the waist to the nape of the neck with tiny silver buttons. Sleeves, plain to the elbow, and then cut in a deep bell-shaped cuff, were lined with and buttoned in silver. The skirt hung slipper-length in front,

sweeping in graceful folds from the waist at the back to form a square 'train. A veil of embroidered tulle, lent

by a. friend, was simply worn well off the head, circled by a. wreath of orange blossom buds, and foil in filmy folds to cloud gown and train. As her only ornament tlie bride wore on her frock a spray of orange blossom, which had been worn by her .mother at her own wedding. White satin slippers and an arm spray of white chrysanthemums, paper whites and begonias, with maidenlieair and asparagus fern tied with white tulle and silver ribbons, completed a- charming bridal toilette.

Miss Thelma Gibson attended her sister as chief bridesmaid, assisted by Miss Gertrude Hall, Patea. Both bridesmaids were frocked alike in sunset pink and silver. Their frocks—of sunset pink silk velvet—were figurefitting, the high necks being slashed both at front and back to reveal linings of silver lame. At the back, a row of tiny pink buttons, looped in silver, extended from waist to neck, and the cowls of the short puffed velvet sleeves were lined with silver. The slim skirts. circled by long silver girdles with swinging tassels, hung straight to the toes in front, trains being attached with lightly rucliod effect low on tlie hack panel. Charming accessories were provided in close fitting caps of pink velvet edged with tiny flat velvet flowers, long lace mittens of pink silk, and silver kid slippers. Begonias, roses and chrysanthemums in rose shades, tied with silver ribbons and arranged with maidenhair fern, formed the bridesmaids’ posies.

The bridegroom was supported by his cousin, 3lr Brian Haybittle, as best man, and. 1 31r W. Kerr was groomsman.

Alter the wedding a reception was held at the bride’s home, Alountain Road, when pride of place was given to a large square three-tier wedding cake, the gift of Airs Harcourt. About 120 guests were received by Airs Harcourt, whoso attractive gown of dark green mariette and lace made an effective foil for her shoulder spray of cyclamen shaded flowers and maidenhair fern. Airs Farmer, mother of the bridegroom, wore black georgette with a floral pattern in autumn tonings and she chose a pretty shoulder spray of golden tinted chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern. Aliss Gwen Harcourt, who assisted her mother, wore a smartly cut tunic of black taffeta over a skirt of black taffeta lightly sprinkled with small carnival spots. Her shoulder spray was of scarlet berries, flowers and fern.

When leaving for a motor tour of the North Island, Airs Eric Haybittle wore a smart Jong-coated ensemble of nigger brown cloth. AVith it she chose a blouse of check taffeta, a dark brown hat with a touch of bright orange, a brown handbag and skin shoes. The finishing touch was given by a long brown fur stole, the gift of the bridegroom. Air and Airs Haybittle will make their home at Pukengaliu. Over 120 friends gathered to wish the bride and bridegroom every happiness, and the numerous telegrams 10eeivecl from all parts of New Zealand testified to the esteem in which the young couple are held. Cheerful fires and masses of flowers in the reception •rooms made a cosy atmosphere, and the display of beautiful wedding presents was greatly admired. During the evening musical items were given by Miss Thelma Gibson and Alessrs A. Galloway and C. L. Hay, and elocutionary items by Aliss Alabel Kerr and Aliss Anne Hall. Accompaniments were played by Airs AI. Parslow.
