OHANGAI

Maori Social Club

On Friday evening the committee of the Ohangai Maori Social Club held a dance in the Ohangai Hall, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion with coloured streamers and native tree ferns. A merry throng of dancers appreciated the excellent music provided by "Wills’ Orchestra. Among those present were Misses L. Himes, shell pink windswept maroeain and white ribbed velvet coatee; M. Fitzgerald, apricot elephant crepe; I. O’Shea, flame marionette; E. Shand, floral lavender taffetas; E. Sfiieb, lemon floral crinkle georgette and flame coolie coat; N. Vincent, black georgette and lace and wnite velvet coatee; E. Harding, peach floral satin; E. Frahm, black lace and turquoise blue ring velvet coatee; M. "Wallace, apple green sprigged crepe and black crushed velvet, coatee; G. Emeny, blue floral ninon; Mesdames Tamarapha, pink satin; B. Tamaka, green windswept satin; OP. Rophia, flame silk and satin; J. Hinga, cerise floral georgette; Misses E. Hinga, black honeycomb satin; T. Tamaka, cream floral taffetas. I

During the evening several vocal items were contributed by local and visiting Maoris, including songs by .Huia Tuatahi, “Don’t Stop Loving iVle” and “Good-bye”; Simon Penny, “Home Sweet Home” and “Too Young”; \V. liophia, ‘‘Waggon “Wheels” and an encore; M. Lennard (Patea), “Why Shouldn’t I” and an encore; B. Tamaka, “Cuckoo’’ and an encore; Katene (Patea), “Young and Beautiful.” Several Monte Carlo dances were won during the evening, the winners being: Monte Carlo waltz, Miss G. Emeny and Mr W. Radford; Monte Carlo foxtrot, Miss E. Hinga and M. Lennard; Monte Carlo waltz, Mr J. Huia Tuatahi and partner; Monte Carlo one-step, S. Penny and partner. On behalf of the club Mr G. Hinga thanked those present for helping to I make the function a success.

Mr Tamarapha was master of ceremonies.
