"There’s a real bargain for you, sir. She’ll still do her 35 and 40 to the gallon, although she’s pre-war,” said the car dealer. "Which one?” asked the prospective purchaser. "That one, sir —with the hood up.” "Yes—l see. I meant which war?” *****

Marigold-coloured road surfaces are to be the latest contributions to road safety overseas. They can be provided on concrete surfaces, giving good visibility by day and night, and eliminating sun dazzle. *****

Magistrate (in traffic court): “I’ll let you off with a fine this time, but another" day I’ll send you to gaol.”

Driver: “Sort of a weather forecast, eli, sir.” Magistrate: “ What do you mean?” Driver: “Fine to-day cooler tomorrow.”

“Got all the fittings for your new car?” asked' the pushful agent. The already disillusioned purchaser fumbled in his pockets. “Sir,” he replied, sadly, “there’s an extra tyre on board; here’s my alias, my alibi’s in my pocket-book, and I’ve got a blank cheque to fill in for bail — yes, I’m all right, thanks.” * * *. * * The Car in Front.

Hans von Stuck, the German racing driver, has announced that he is contemplating building a car which he hopes will beat the world’s land-speed record of 270.816 miles an hour set up at Daytona Beach by Sir Malcolm Campbell on March 7. “The new car,” Herr von Stuck said, “will be entirely my own design. Its -cost will be more than £BO,OOO, and I think I can attain a speed of 330 miles an hour.”

Herr von Stuck said he would build the car in Germany, and that lie would attack Sir Malcolm’s record on one of the new motor-roads now being built in Germany. *****

Spare Parts. It is not realised by all owners of motor vehicles that the life of motor tyres not in regular use can be nearly doubled by keeping them in a cool, dark place. Tyres not in use should not be exposed to light and heat for any great length of time; otherwise deterioration -sets in. This advice applies not only to tyres hung up in one’s garage, but also to the tyre on the spare wheel.
