SUICIDE WHILE DEPRESSED

The death occurred in tragic circumstances yesterday of Herbert Eric White, aged 29, son of a well-known Porangahau settler. White’s body was found in a back shed on the Wangaehu station with a gunshot wound. At an inquest last night before Mr Thomas Hobson, J.P., a verdict that death was caused by a gunshot wound, self-inflicted while in a depressed state of mind was returned. The evidence showed that deceased had suffered from spinal meningitis when aged 15 and never fully recovered. DEATH FROM THROAT WOUND. MAN FOUND IN HOTEL. CHRISTCHURCH, April 8. Simeon Brophy, aged 41, was found in a small room adjoining the bar .at the Royal Hotel on Friday with his throat cut and a razor lying beside him. He was taken to the public hospital, where he died last evening An inquest was held to-day before the coroner, Mr. H. A. Young, who returned a verdict that Brophy died from a wound self-inflicted while he was suffering from epileptic fits.. Papers found on Brophy indicate, that his last address was the Public Works Department camp at Lake Sumner.
