HAWERA TEAM’S EASY WIN

FINAL MATCH WITH FITZROY

Bv seven goals to nil Hawera defeated Fitzroy in the provincial water polo final at "the New Plymouth baths on Saturday night, and provided probably the most -scientific exhibition of the' game .seen in the province. The Hawera team’s combination was clearly superior; features being accurate passing and goall-shooting and more speedy swimming.

The teams were : Hawera. —J. Tarrant; L. George, S. Gorman. S« Anderson; A. Ryan, G. Beaven, W. J. Thomas. Fitzroy.—N. J. Gardiner; W. J. Toomey, L. Kerr; C. J. Mac-lean; R. I Grac-e, B. Milne, O. G. Campbell. j Fitzroy opened the attack and Maclean made two endeavours' to goal with long distance shots. Ryan took advantage of a positional weakness to send in a stinging shot and opened Hawera’s tally. The Fitzroy goalie fended a succession of shots and made some splendid saves, but Thomas beathim with a sparkling throw. Splendid passing resulted in Beaven scoring shortly afterwards. Thomas scored his second goal early in the second spell and again shortly afterwards following a fast forward movement. Fitzroy broke, through and Milne made a fine solo effort and passed to Grace, but Tarrant brought off a good save. Maintaining an insistent attack. Hawera had Fitzroy hard, on the defensive and Beaven clipped in a shot that easily beat the keeper. Just on time Rivan added another goal. Mr M. Smalo refereed.
