In the first- robbery in the history of the United States Treasury fake gold bars having a fictitious value of £6OOO were (Stolen during the night from a showcase on the main floor where thov were displayed for tourists. The bars are of base metal gilded and of the same weight as gold. The authorities were astounded by the fact that the robbery occurred within 110 feet of vaults holding millions in real gold and cash. The lid of the showcase had been carefully removed and replaced.
