RIOTING AT LIMERICK

Thirty-three people were treated for injuries in the Limerick Hospital following disturbances on Saturday night at an open-air meeting at Limerick which was addressed by General OTuffy and Mr Cosgrave. There were frequent baton charges by civic guards Five people were detained. The rioters attempted to set fire to three motor ears outside the Blue Shirt leader’s hotel. Shots were fired at the Civic Guards pursuing the rioters. Armed gangs ambushed National Guards near Dingle and fired a volley without result. They' then emerged from a hedge and. ordered the Blue Shirts to proceed. The ambushers fired again, wounding a Dingle publican, Martin Fitzgerald. Three arrests were made and Patrick Devane, Thomas Collins and Robert Myles have been remanded on a charge of wounding Fitzgerald with intent to murder.
