The Hawera backs set up a hot attack which was successfully countered, and the Collegians swept down-field in a solid rush. For off-side play they were awarded a penalty and Hewitt placed a fine goal. From the kick-out Dowdle. Dymond and Hammond were associated ’n a nice passing rush, but Harrington ’s defence was good and Gargan and Whakarua made a dashing rush down-field that was stopped -at the quarter-day. Back went Hawera, and from a penalty Nolan scored with an excellent kick, equalising the scores as the first spell concluded. Hawera set up a series of attacks and only good defence saved the Collegians on several occasions. At length the hall went out from R. Campbell across the line of backs to Hammond, who scored a try. Lendrum converted. C. Wills made a fine dash for Hawera and passed to Herbert, who lost the ball just as he was on the line. Alloman and Whakarua returned up-field in a concerted rush, the latter just failing to score. In the third spell 'Old Boys had much the better of the play. The game was not taken too seriously and Old Collegians did not score again. A good forward rush saw Holloway get through to score behind the posts, C. Wills failing with the kick. Shortly afterwards the ball came across field, all the backs handling, and Lendrum raced round to score a good try. He also converted. Old Collegians attacked strongly and Diekson made a dashing run down-field and passed to Harrington, who lost the ball just on the line. ’ Hawera returned and Dymond, taking well, galloped through to score a lone-handed try. Lendrum’s kick was again successful. -C. Wills made a fine run from near his own line and, when collared, sent the ball out to Herbert, -who dashed, across, the line and scored. The kick failed. After a spell of even play, marked by good forward rushes by the Old Collegians, Lee secured near the centre and finished a good run by. scoring near the posts. The kick failed and the match ended.
