GROUNDS HEAVY WITH RAIN ASHBURTON BEATS WANGANUI (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DANNEYIRKE, Aug. 28. The weather is overcast at present, though fine, for the resumption of the ladies’ hockey toiirn'ey. Bain fell during the night and the grounds promise to be heavy to-day for the conclusion of sectional! play. Canterbury and Southland are level with 8 points each in Section A. Otago must beat or draw with Wellington to-day to win Section B, while Elastem has to win to-day’s game against Wairarapa to lead in Seation C.

This morning’s game, Ashburton v. Wairarapa, resulted by two goals to one in favour of the former. Tlie scorers for the winners were Misses J. Ross and J. Brown and. for the losers Miss T. Duncan scored.
