Eastern with its team at full strength redeemed itself by beating Bush 3—o in a very exciting game. The forwards were aggressive and coinbined in fine movements. There were no weak spots in the Bush defence but Bush was unable to score. ' Eastern s first score come from a penalty at the twenty-five line, Aliss F. Allen hitting strongly to Aliss K. HAAYANGA SHIELD PLAY

AVANGANUI TEAMS AT HAAA'ERA

Annual inter-club games for the Hawanga •Hockey Shield were played at King Edward Park in Hawera on Saturday afternoon, when the Hawera Men’s Hockey Club and the Rovers (ladies) Hockey Club received return visits from 'Wanganui Old Boys and Wanganui Old Girls’ teams respectively. Roth parties travelled together in one large bus and after the games were hospitably entertained. The men’s shield was retained bj Hawera, which won by eight goals, scored by P. Syme (4), G. Moloney (2), E. Elect and J. Watson, to one, scored by A. Le Brun. The ladies’ game was much more closely contested, "Wanganui winning by four goals to three. Roth teams 'had a large following ol supporters on the side-line, and many old acquaintances among Hawera residents and the visitors were renewed. At a complimentary dance m the evenino- the visitors were welcomed on behalf "of the combined Hawera clubs bv Mr. G. A. R. McKoy, who presented the shields and congratulated the winning teams on their success. Mr. Le Rrun responded on behalf of the Wanganui teams. The teams left Hawera early yesterday morning on their annual visit to Dawson Falls, but owing to unfavourable weather no organised climbing was attempted.
