INAUGURATION AT HA WEB A. APPOINTMENT OF REPRESENT ATIVES. Following the Taranaki amateur boxing championships held at Hawera on Friday night the Taranaki Provincial Boxing Council, consisting of two representatives of each, affiliated association in the province was inaugurated at a meeting of delegates. There were present Messrs A. H. Guy and S. R. Veitch (Hawera Boxing Association), J. Garcia and C. McLeod (Taranaki), F. Eamsbottom and T. Scott (Patea), J. G. Wiliams and B. Clement (Eltham). Mr Garcia, who presided, extended a welcome to the Eltham delegates and congratulated the Eltham association on its revival and wished it success. Regret was expressed that the Stratford association was not represented, and that body is to be invited to appoint two delegates.' Mr Garcia was elected president and Mr S. It. Veitch honorary secretary. It was stated that some of the functions of the council would be. to arrange dates of tournaments to avoid any clashing between associations, to generally promote the interests of amateur boxing throughout Taranaki, and to arrange for uniformity in regard to payment of travelling expenses, trophies, etc. The president and secretary were appointed a committee to draw up rules and submit them to a later meeting of the council. Affiliated associations are to be asked to submit suggestions. In order to provide finance it was decided that each association should be asked to contribute £l. The secretary submitted a balancesheet showing that there was a profit of £ll on the championship tournament, which will be devoted towards the expenses of sending the Taranaki team to Blenheim. Notification was received from the Zealand Boxing Association that it would make a grant of £2 per man for four men towards the expenses. It was decided to send a team of . six boxers as already published, the expenses being estimated at £42. The balance of the money, £23, will be found by the four associations represented at the conference. The team will leave for Blenheim on August 6. The remits to be dealt with at the annual conference of the New Zealand Boxing Council were discussed and it was resolved to give the delegates discretionary power. A vote of thanks was accorded the [Hawera Boxing Association for the interest it had displayed in convening the conference and for its hospitality.
