CHATHAM GUP FINAL, i PGNSONBY BEATS MILLERTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 26. The Millerton All Blacks (South Island) had all the ill-fortune m the Chatham Cup filial against Ponsonbv (Auckland) in the Basin Reserve on Saturday, in which they were defeated by 2 to 1. In the first half Millerton ran over its opponent and did everything but score. The second spell was more even, but on the general run of play the Auckland representatives were distinctly luckier. Both teams played good football, although some of the finishing efforts lacked polish. Millerton opened well and worried the Auckland defence, Auckland retaliated with an attack which carried all before it. limes sent to Ahern and to Jepson and the centre-forward placed the ball neatly out of Smith’s reach for a. goal. Millerton was close to scoring oil several occasions. Auckland made the most of a mistake by a Millerton back and Ahern gave his side a lead of two goals at half-time. This, however, was no indication of the run of the play. Millerton challenged on several occasions m the second session. A particularly determined effort was stopped by Watson at the expense of a corner, and from the resulting kick the ball went out to Pollock, who lifted it beaut fully over the heads of a bunch of players and into the net. This was the final score. 'llie luck of the game was definitely against Millerton, which time and again placed excellent centres in front of t}ie goal. I AUCKLAND BEATS OTAGO. TROPHY CHALLENGE GAME.
