The party lost its way and wandered for three days between the Italian and' French sum mitts. Five of the party became exhausted on d the two comrades placed them in a shelter off crovassed ice and struggled towards a refuge 1000 feet b e.low, whore they arrived half dead from hunger, but insisted on guiding a party of 20 mountaineers to. search, for the missing men. Both succumbed on route. The rescuers subsequently found the other five dead 1 .
