During a brief visit hero by RearAdmiral liyrd lie revealed plans tor the forthcoming Antarctic expedition. He was not ready to divulge cue date of departure, but said lie would leave within two months. The supply snip would bo named the Pacific rur and was of 8800 tons, a steel oil burner, ten times as large as the City of Isow York. A wooden brigantine named the Bear would serve as an outpost ship.
A special bi-motored aeroplane under construction would be equipped with ski landing gear and have space to carry 15 passengers in addition to a crew of three. It would have a cruising speed of 155 miles an hour. The complete personnel of the ■ expedition has not boon announced, but it includes Mr Harold June, one of the three men who made the South Pole flight, Commander George Noville, a veteran of Byrd’s Arctic trip and trans-Atlantic flight, and Scout Paul Sipple.
