CANTERBURY PRODUCE

MARKETS DULL (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GH'RJSITCIIURICH, Aug. 25. There is no improvement in the demand for* .potatoes. The North Island is still 'being supplied from consignments going forward. It is probable that Tuesday’s boat will take an in-

creased quantity as it will be the last vessel of the month and it is now too late to put potatoes into store in anticipation of a favourable turn to the market. Quotations are nominally £4 a ton f.0.b., sacks in, or £3 on trucks. The oats market is lifeless. The south appears to have plenty of oats on hand and they are being quoted at Bluff at 2s 4d' for A grade Gartons. The illocail price is from 2s s id to 2s 6d, but 'business is negligible at this figure. Partridge peas are quoted at 3s 9d on trucks. There is no inquiry on the home account. There is vei-y little movement in the small seeds market and prices are stationary. There was a big production of most seeds, particularly ryegrass. A few orders for spring sowing harve come in but this demand will not be genera]

for some weeks yet. A little export of cocksfoot took place earlier in the season but this lias now ceased. Aharon is quoted a.t 5d a Lb for farmers’ dressed, and plains at 4d to 4 id. The ryegrass market is very dull. There is practically no demand at present for either perennial or Italian. Perennial is quoted at Is 9d a. bushel on trucks and Italian at Is 9d to 2s. Most of the white clover seed has been purchased from farmers. It is worth Is a lb for good' clean, seed on trucks. Uowgrass is worth 8d per Lb to farmers. The fescue market is very weak. Quotations are 4d a Lb. f.o.b. Dogstail is worth fid to 6-Jd a lb f.0.b., but business is very limited.
