(From Our Own Correspondent). SCHOOL PICNIC. The Ohangai school children (held their picnic on Wednesday. They arrived at the Hawera baths at about 10.30 a.in. and .spent an hour and a half in the water. Mr. Blythe gave the children many useful hints on swimming. When heavy rain was experienced Mr. L. Of Hooker kindly allowed the use of accommodation at the Winter Show Buildings for the luncheon assembly, provisions for which were provided by the school committee. /In the •afternoon games and races wore played and run, each child receiving a prize. When the rain cleared. the gathering proceeded to the park where a most enjoyable afternoon was snent, the children returned home tired but happy. WOMEN’S DIVISION. The Ohangai-Mercmerc branch ol the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its meeting in the Ohangai llall on Friday afternoon. Mrs. G. W. Williams, president of the branch, was in the chair. Mi'S. J. Robertson (secretary) and Mrs. M. Bowden (treasurer) wore also present. A very pleas ant afternoon was spent, about 25 members attending. Three new members and one junior were enrolled. Many discussions took place, a principal subject being a long letter from Miss Violet MacMillan on home science. Mi's. Lovell, of Hawera, gave a very interesting demonstration on flower gardens and grasses, arranging flowers m homes and how to make bouquets, poseys and wreaths. Heir conversation on early Victorian poseys and Canada was pinch appreciated and a vote of thanks was- carried by acclamation. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames J. Lander, W. Dunlop, H. Frahm and Miss I. O’Shea. The meeting closed with afternoon tea.

PERSONAL. Miss Agnes O’Shea is spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs. T. Cullen, of Gonville, Wanganui.
